A Formula to Change Your Life

this morning
this morning

There's a lot going around on the topics of manifesting, speaking things into existence, goal creation, action planning, purging, moving through childhood traumas and holding onto self limiting beliefs. What if you could create a something that helps with all of those topics right from your bed? Would you?

I sat down and wrote this "blog"... this morning. This is my desk and it's a little after 8:30am. I was thinking about one of my young friends I walked a small portion of the Camino de Santiago with... She's in her 20's and from Belgium. She too was walking the camino alone. And when our paths crossed, we talked off and on filling the silence, the camino with stories about our lives back home and our thoughts about life.

What she didn't know is that I always admired her push through, her stamina... and the her vulnerability to share her life with me... a stranger. She was (is) funny. I remember we stopped too long in one of the towns along the Francis route, had too many beers and chatted it up with others that were staying in the local albergues in town. But we were moving on... our beds were still miles away.

When we decided to make our way, we got caught up in a downpour. Then she suggested we try to hitchhike out of town to our next stop. As siesta hour approached, the roads emptied, the mercados began to close their doors... and we were getting drenched. I was worried about my shoes getting too wet; how would I wear them the next day... And she kept walking holding out her thumb. We split the road, her on one side me on the other... No one stopped and we wandered into a monastery.

I was thinking about her last night as I responded to her DM on a social media platform. There she was on the back of a cycle touring through Indonesia with friends. There she was asking for my thoughts... and here I am... writing this blog... a trickle down effect of our relationship and conversations.

“Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sometimes, I wonder if people know how amazing they are.... If they are able to step back and see themselves the way others do. I wonder if we tell people enough how inspirational they are... How admirable they are for doing things we barely dip our toes into moments where greatness lies.

Our paths ended in Leon, Spain.... She was heading back to home... and I would continue to follow her journey. She would embarked on a path in Portugal... sharing photos from the cliffs looking down at the shore and ocean below... and I would hold tight to my goal... my dreams of returning.

Why the personal interlude into my life... and a life of someone elses somewhere on the otherside of the planet? Because we are all the same... and yet beautifully different. The one thing we must hold onto... is the evolving into the beings we desire to become. Because our stories... our lives matter... They're impactful.

There are hidden messages and lessons in our day to day...
But what if you could cultivate your days into the life you want...
Would you?

3 Questions to Ask Yourself

  1. What went well for me today?

  2. What didn't go so well for me today?

  3. What can I change tomorrow?

When should you do this?

The best time would be at the end of the day... before bed or when you feel your day is coming to an end. I usually recommend journaling in the morning first thing before you set off into auto pilot, but those first starting off find this difficult. The evening is the best time to look back (while it's still fresh) at your day. It's not quite over.... and you're able to readjust... recalibrate how you move forward by preplanning for the next day.

How should I do this?

...by journaling.

Benefits for this purpose:

  1. Increased self awareness

  2. Mindfulness and focus

  3. Mood regulation

  4. Improved sleep

  5. Goal setting and achievement

How to choose the right journal:

You'll probably be doing this bed... or maybe your car as you pull into your driveway and sit. So, getting a hardback journal is better because you won't need a table, a desk or to prop it against something in order to write. Find something nice. Something you could see on your nightstand or on your bookshelf. Invest in journal that represents your asthetic.

Does consistency matter?

Yes.... it's that simple. In order to see the patterns of your life, you have to be able to see HOW you're living and spending your life. Where are you consistent? Where are you spending your time? How do you feel after spending that time? You'll be able to see the patterns in your life moving you forward, account for your "wins", where your time drainers and where you've been avoiding (procrastinating).

I like to workout in the morning... I also like to journal and have my coffee... BUT I find myself most aligned to do work in the morning. For me, it's important to do the things I'm less likely to "want" to do that yeilds me the most movement and benefit. It holds the bigger Why... and the biggest resistance.

When should you start?

You should begin when you get your journal in your hands. Make a point right now, go online and order your journal today. Don't put it off. Don't decide to shop around and feel the texture, the pages... get the right pen. These are all obstacles your mind is placing in front of you. It's a way of standing still and sabotaging yourself to stand still. After you order your journal mentally prep yourself to begin this process. Save this blog and reread it till your journal comes in. Print it off, tuck it into you journal as a reminder why you started.

Journaling is an invaluable tool. And for those feeling they just don't have the time or they are too busy lifing to do this for yourself, this is the perfect way to work yourself back into your life. This is a method for conscious living and moving in a direction aligned with your purpose, your dreams and your goals.

Best Regards!
