Book Club
You don't have to be an avid reader...
Reading takes a lot of personal accountability, self control and willingness to work out an areas of our life we feel we need to either fill with other things. There's a surge of readers now buying physical books that you can hold in your hands and pass on to others. While there's huge benefits to audible books (some of us are auditory learners) and digital formats for convenience, the hidden benefit of reading a physical book exercises areas of ourselves most of us find uncomfortable.
I began a local book club with a few of my closest friends and my oldest daughter. Two are sisters that I grew up with and attribute me being alive, finishing school and having a place to sleep in high school. One of my friends, lived next door with her parents when my oldest was in jr high school. It's expanded and a community is being born!

How books are chosen
There is a flow to books. Books are in a cycle. If a book is short, we might combine two books for the next meet up. Books for the year is planned out by the facilitator. You are not limited to reading a physical hard copy; some choose audible books. This is up to the "reader". No commission is being made from reading or suggesting the books.

SAFE SPACE
Holding SAFE SPACE for our book club is at the top of our priorities. Being a part of the LOCAL BOOK CLUB MEET UP is through an application process.
The meet ups are small (limited in size) and has a group facilitator. The group facilitator monitors the time, provides the space location, oversees notifying the group of upcoming meet ups, books, changes, the set up and goes over the flow of the meet up. It's encouraged to arrive at least 20 minutes early to the location to grab your coffee, breakfast, pastry, mingle and catch up! Time and Location are given privately to those attending.
Questions That Make You Think are questions brought to the table based on questions used in other successful book clubs. This helps the group share, not feel put on the spot, express different points of view, opens others up to see the book differently and keeps the flow going. While we love debates, we don't in this book club. This is an insightful share based on the questions provided.
NONNEGOTIABLES: Attendees must be sober, not under the influence, emotionally intelligent, kind and able to be present. Negative comments, racism, passive-aggressive behavior or anything along these lines are not permitted in any of the groups

TIP: I would encourage you to read the book in the event someone is not able to attend and a spot opens up or you decide to join the online book club meet up when it becomes available.

I am currently in the works to making this happen. Online group lives and or group zoom discussion circles are in the process of being created.
